Supreme Court Rules the 2nd Admendment is an individual right, a long-sought victory for gun rights advocates who have chafed at federal, state and local efforts to restrict gun ownership.
"It is clear that the Framers . . . counted the right to keep and bear arms among those fundamental rights necessary to our system of ordered liberty," Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. wrote for the conservatives on the court.
Justice Sonia Sotomayor misled Congress - Isn't hind site grand
Sonia Sotomayor said this during her confirmation hearings:
Among the series of questions that Judge Sonia Sotomayor fielded from senators Tuesday morning (in June 2009) were those addressing her position on gun rights, specifically her opinion of the recent Heller decision issued by the Supreme Court. Last year, District of Columbia v. Heller determined that the Second Amendment's guarantee that Americans can keep and bear arms is a right of every individual, not just a general right of a community as a whole.
The committee's chairman, Patrick Leahy, first told Sotomayor that he enjoys target shooting on a regular basis back home in Vermont and then asked, referring to Heller, "Is it safe to say you accept the Second Amendment is an individual right?"
Sotomayor answered plainly, "Yes sir," and added, "I understand how important the right to keep and bear arms is to many people; one of my godchildren is a member of the NRA."
Today, June 28, 2010 we see she, Justice Sotomayor, voted with the minority, in essence saying the 2nd Amendment guarantee is not an Individual Right.
Did she just misspeak during here confirmation hearings?
Did she purposely mislead Congress?
How about she just told a bold face lie?
Now Congress will begin asking nominee Elana Kagan some questions. Will she be honest?
