I support the confirmation and appointment of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the US Supreme Court.
When Judge Sonia Sotomayor was first nominated I questioned whether or not she was truly qualified to become an associate supreme court justice. She had over the past few years stated several times that she believed a " wise latino woman" could and would make better decisions than a white male justice based upon her gender, ethnicity and life experiences. In my mind this raised very serious questions regarding her ability to interpret and apply the U. S. Constitution impartially and fairly?
After having seen and heard her testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee I have come to the conclusion she will more than likely be a centrist justice. That she will put her own personal feelings aside a make judgments based upon what the Constitution actually says and precedents set by prior Supreme Court decisions. That is my most feverent prayer. I for one do not want to see new laws made from the judicial bench. That is the roll of the United States Congress.
Considering she will be the replacement for Justice David Sutor. I believe the court will be better for the change. I hope and pray this is so.
